Sarah Bentley Ushers in 2026 with Busy Agenda That Promises Fun Times
Welcome to 2026! Our dedicated volunteers are prepared for a year full of happy and educational events for Houston Orchid Society. I will briefly touch on a few opportunities to anticipate:
- Dynamic in-person monthly meetings curated by VP of Speakers Daria Souvarova. Some speakers may appear on Zoom. Through the year, most meetings will be broadcast via Zoom for those members who can’t attend in person.
- Leah Williams will be the “greeter” at meetings. One free raffle ticket for everyone wearing a name tag. Order yours now, or get one from Leah.
- Raffle Table Chair cameron yates will be selling tickets for an array of orchids suitable for Houston. Be sure to claim your free ticket!
- Jean Schwenke will manage the Show-and-Tell Table every month. Bring your blooms to show off! HOS will have a floor exhibit at the Galveston Bay Orchid Society show in Webster, Texas, on May 8 and 9. Jean and I will lead that effort. More details to follow.
- August Workshop on Saturday, August 8, with a focus on Phalaenopsis! Daria has lined up great speakers, and Kar Seong is co-chair. Happy Hour Friday invitations will be emailed to registrants.
- Culture Club (formerly Newcomer’s Group) meetings will be open to all members. Tim Young is chairing this committee. At the January 8 meeting we will announce the Jan 18 location, and invitations will be emailed as usual.
- October Picnic, Saturday, October 17, at First Christian Church, probably with a fundraising raffle. Bring friends!
