April 2 Meeting

Daria Souvorova to Present Info About Display Design

At our Thursday, April 2, meeting, our own Daria Souvorova will give a presentation on building orchid displays. She’ll discuss the principles of design, what judges look for, and how to get the viewers’ and judges’ eyes focused on the right spots in the presentation.

Darie will talk you through all the steps in preparation for the Galveston Bay Orchid Society Show next month to collectively make the best display possible.

A recent transplant to Houston, Daria hails from Minsk, Belarus. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from PRATT Institute and a Master of Fine Arts from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Professionally, Daria teaches for Tomball ISD and is an adjunct professor at the University of Houston.

Daria has been growing orchids for the past 20 years and has committed to Texas-sized scale growing since coming here two years ago. She is a student in the Houston Judging Center, a member of the AOS Education Committee, and the incumbent Vice President of SWROGA.

Daria prefers to grow bifoliate Cattleya species and primary hybrids, as well as Polychilos Phalaenopsis species.

The meeting begins at 7:30pm at First Christian Church, 1601 Sunset Boulevard, Houston.
