The Houston Judging Center held its monthly meeting on Saturday, September 21, at the First Christian Church. Nine judges and three student judges had the opportunity to judge 15 orchids brought in by several growers. The judging teams awarded two Catasetum hybrids and a Catasetum species.
Stephen Moffitt’s Catasetum Louise Clarke ‘Bill Bartlettt’ received an AM of 87 points. It had 45 exquisite flowers on three inflorescences—well deserving of the high score. The next awarded plant also went to Stephen Moffitt. It was named Catasetum Moffitt’s Baby ‘Cloe’ and received an HCC of 79 points. Last on the list was another award to Stephen. Catasetum juruenense, a species, received a CHM (Certificate of Horticultural Merit) of 83 points. Congratulations Stephen.
Houston Judging Center meetings are held on the third Saturday of each month and are open to all orchid growers. You can’t win an award if you don’t bring in your orchid.
