Eight plants were presented at the March 19 judging. We awarded a Mormodia owned by Stephen Gallagher—Mormodia Regine Viard ‘Roxie,’ which is a cross using Mormodes and Clowesia, the parents being Cl. Grace Dunn and Mormodia Jumbo Bacia.
A very small plant with intensely colored flowers, it earned an Award of Merit (AM) of 83 points. The flowers were 1½ by 1¾ inches [4.3 x 3.1 cm]. Here is the official description with some explanation of terms:
Fourteen red plum flowers and four buds arranged on one 21-cm inflorescence; sepals and petals remarkably flat; sepals lanceolate (like a lance, pointed), petals ovate (rounded); lip cymbiform (like a cymbidium lip), denticulate (tooth-edged), blushed orange centrally, callus (a central raised section of the lip) two pronged; column cream, blushed plum basally; substance firm; texture satin; pleasing ginger fragrance; plant 14cm wide by 4.5cm tall.
Congratulations to Stephen and many thanks to all who brought plants to judge. We are always more than happy to have you come to monthly judging with or without flowers to show. We also have a very affordable raffle, open to all, with some fabulous plants.
