Happy New Year! Our Houston Judging Center met on January 18. Five plants were judged. Two awards were given, both to Mormodes warszewiczii ‘Priscilla Ann’ grown by Stephen Gallagher! Stephen not only received a cultural award, a CCE of 90, but his plant also received a quality award, a FCC of 90. This is a really big deal, and it was only the 10th time in the 35-year history of Houston Judging Center that an FCC has been given! Stephen’s plant is a beautiful species with five inflorescences and 142 unique flowers. Well done Stephen!
If anyone is interested in becoming a judge or just wants to know what judging involoves, come to one of our monthly judging meetings. We meet every third Saturday at First Christian Church. The requirements have changed in the past couple of years, and it has never been easier to become an orchid judge. Training starts at 11:00am and judging follows lunch at about 12:30pm.
Our next meeting will be on February 15, 2025. Hope to see you there.
