Favorite Hybrids and Species at June 2 Plant Table
As 2022 marches on and as we see an uptick in in-person meeting attendance, we are also seeing an increase in orchids grown by members on our display tables. At our June 2 meeting we had an impressive display of 20 hybrids and 13 species at the front plant tables. There were clearly many nice plants present, so much so that it led to a six-way tie for the vote for members’ favorite hybrid:
- Bulbophyllum Bechinolina ‘Oh My Mea,’ grown by Al Mowery
- Paph. Egret’s Moonbeam, grown by Judith Neufeld
- Vanda Yano Blue, grown by Ken Whitmire
- Blc. Toshie’s Magic ‘Doris,’ grown by Ken Whitmire
- Cattleya Rosie’s Surprise x L. sincorana, grown by Sandra Higham
- Lc. Canhamiana ‘Cobalt,’ grown by Jay Balchan
The winner of the members’ vote for favorite species was a beautiful Dendrobium amabile grown by Tan Tran.
Thank you to Jay Balchan and Fr. Ted Baenziger for presenting the hybrids and species in further detail for us. Again, thank you to everyone who brought in plants to the June meeting. Let’s keep ’em coming! I know we’re looking forward to seeing what everyone has blooming this summer.
