2023 Spring Show Just Days Away!

Can you believe it? Our Spring Show is only one month out! Remember, we are moving the show up to March because of Easter weekend in April.

Everything else is basically the same as in prior years with the Show taking place on Saturday, March 4, and Sunday, March 5. Setup begins Thursday, March 2, after 5pm and continues through Friday. Heavy setup must be completed by 10am on Friday.

We need help with many of the same activities as we have in the past. The event is a great way for new members to learn about the show, meet other members, and get acquainted with how the judging process works. The “inexperienced” as well as “old hands” are encouraged to volunteer. All hands on deck!

Exhibits and Setup

We would like to have more individual table-top exhibits this year as compared to last year. If you are interested in setting up a table-top exhibit, please contact Holly Miller. It is fun, easy, and very rewarding. There is a novice category for first-time exhibitors and even a category for exhibiting five or fewer plants!

Brad Miller (no relation to Holly) will coordinate the HOS exhibit as he did last year. If you are not doing your own exhibit, plan to bring your blooming plants for show in the HOS exhibit. With the March Show date, we hope to have a huge number of blooming plants!

We need a few people to help with the “behind the scenes” work of collecting and organizing the plant tags as they come in, along with helping to write labels for the plants that are placed in the HOS exhibit.

Help During Judging Friday Evening

We need help in two places on Friday evening. The first need is for a person or two to help coordinate giving the folders with the plant tags to the appropriate judging teams as they are assigned. Please contact Holly if you are interested in helping with this.

The second need is for at least a dozen folks to assist the judging teams in handing out the ribbons and trophies in all the judging categories. This role is called “clerking.” Clerking is a very fun job, as you are right in the middle of all the action! Please let Jay know if you are interested in helping as a clerk.

Help During the Show on Saturday and Sunday

The final area we need to help in is to staff the HOS/AOS table during show hours. Patrons often have questions about general orchid care or about the local society, and we help answer those questions. We will not have a formal signup for this but would appreciate anyone who is able to spend an hour or two at the table. We always try to have at least two people at the table.

Our members have generously filled all the roles described above for many decades. You have never let us down. Thank you all for your support!
