Happy Thanksgiving everybody, from your AOS judging team in Houston!
Last Saturday would have been a very dreary day without our monthly judging; yes, it was rainy and cold, but cheer prevailed. We awarded one plant, called Perreiraara Rapeepath ‘Satin Stars’ (Perreiraara Bagkok Sunset x Vanda Pine Rivers), owned by Sheila and Laurie Skov. Here is the description:
Perreiraara Rapeepath ‘Satin Stars’ (Perreiraara Bangkok Sunset x Vandachostylis Pine Rivers), HCC 77, presented by Sheila and Laurie Skov (Orchids and Tropicals), Award #20224141.
Twenty-three round, flat flowers and seven buds on one upright 20-cm inflorescence; sepals and petals ovate, cream-colored, fine red spots centrally, apices dark pink; lip trilobed, white basally, spotted red, side lobes erect, mid-lobe undulate; column dark pink, anther cap two hemispheres, dark spotted magenta; substance heavy; texture waxy. Sweet fragrance noted. The natural spread on the flower was 3.5cm wide by 4cm high.
For the next meeting of HOS, on Thursday, December 1, there will be a raffle of fine plants to benefit the Houston Judging Center that provides orchidists all over this area (from Houston to New Orleans) with AOS and ribbon judging. There will be some great plants for your bidding pleasure! And growing and blooming pleasure as well. Be generous and enjoy the early Christmas party.
Our next monthly judging will be December 19. You are welcome to join us and bring a plate along with your cheerful face . . . and orchids.
