Houston Judging Center granted two awards on Saturday, November 20.
A plant brought in by Stephen Moffitt earned an AM of 82 points and a Certificate of Cultural Merit (CCM) for 83/100 points. Stephen brought an Epidendrum porpax, a species from South America, clonal name ‘Rare Earth Orchids.’ The second award was not for the plant but for the grower, who, in this case, has been growing this plant for more than seven years.
On a massive, immaculate plant of 40 cm wide (about 18 inches), the flowers are small but plentiful, 2.2 x 2.9 cm; it had about 205 flowers and another 100+ buds. Stephen is very proud.
