At the monthly judging on March 18, we had five entries and gave three awards. Two of these came to Bryan Wu, his first awards ever. As you may know he comes from China and had an exhibit and sales booth (Wuhoo!) at the HOS Show.
Phalaenopsis tetrapsis ‘Wuhoo’s Pride,’ HCC 79 and CCM 82, Awards #20234108 and #20234110, presented by Bryan Wu
Twenty-five stellate semi-alba flowers and three buds on five branched inflorescences to 21.0 cm and one additional immature inflorescence on a single growth 46.0-cm diameter plant, seven oblanceolate leaves, grown in bark in a 11-cm clear pot; sepals and petals brilliant white; lip trilobed, white, side lobes erect, golden yellow centrally, midlobe magenta basely, superior side pilous distally; column white; substance firm; texture waxy; fragrance pleasant; this plant also received a quality award 20234110.
A very floriferous specimen of this popular species. Welcome to the club of AOS award winners, Bryan!

Four stately, well-presented flowers on an erect 59.5-cm inflorescence; sepals chartreuse, richly striped ox-blood; petals long, broad-shouldered, down-swept, chartreuse, spotted ox-blood, coalesced apically, margin hirsute, ox-blood; pouch horizontal, chartreuse, overlaid cordovan; staminode chartreuse, overlaid cordovan, laterally pubescent ox-blood; substance firm; texture glossy.
We judges are off to Houma, Louisiana, for the weekend of March 24–25 (Terrebone OS Show with judging early Saturday), and some of us will be going to Lafayette (Acadian OS Show) on April 14 with judging on Friday evening.
Our next monthly meeting is April 15 beginning at 10:30 AM at First Christian Church. All are welcome. After lunch around noon, we will begin judging at about 12:30 pm. Clean up your plant, protect it from damage, and bring in your beauties to enjoy the fun.
I will leave for San Diego on Wednesday, April 19, for the American Orchid Society’s Members’ Meeting, where our own Jay Balchan will preside. I am willing to make purchases for you from the great selection expected at the S.D. Show, and if you would like to donate coffee money for the trip, just hunt me down at the monthly judging.
