The Houston Judging Center met for its monthly judging on Saturday, July 15, at First Christian Church. Three beautiful orchids were awarded.
Vandachostyllis Agusan River ‘Allegria’ was awarded an HCC to Sheila and Laurie Skov, Orchids & Tropicals Nursery
Twenty-nine well-spaced open flowers on one erect 27-cm inflorescence; sepals and petals oblanceolate, cream-color, spotted and lined old rose; lip oblong, porrect, cream-color, veined purple, suffused bright purple distally, spur 0.8cm long, green; column and anther cap cream-color, spotted rose; substance firm; texture matte; light fragrance.
Cattlianthe Sagarik Wax ‘Vampira’ was also awarded an HCC to Sheila and Laurie Skov, Orchids & Tropicals Nursery
Six stellate flowers on one 20.5-cm inflorescence and 4 flowers plus 1 bud on an additional inflorescence; sepals and petals dark burgundy; lip side lobes distinctive, open, cream color basally transitioning to pink, darker pink apically, midlobe dark pink, burgundy apically; column cream color, dark pink apically; substance hard, texture satin. Fragrance sweet.
Catasetum Dragon Queen ‘Rare Earth Orchids’ was awarded an AM to Stephen Moffitt, Rare Earth Orchids
Sixteen flowers on one pendent 63.5-cm inflorescence; sepals and petals lanceolate, sea-foam green, finely spotted burgundy, lateral sepals back swept, petals upright, tucked into dorsal sepal; lip saccate, margins, dentate, slightly reflexed, sea-foam green, finely spotted burgundy, throat deep golden yellow, callus cream colored; column white, finely spotted burgundy; substance hard; texture satiny.
