Seventeen judges convened for judging and our semiannual business meeting on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Briefly, the business meeting concluded in the morning, and there were no changes in judges’ status or significant changes in policy or procedure. Of note is the addition of Tim Young as a new clerking staff member. Tim is an HOS member, and we welcome him and his contribution.
In the afternoon, three judging teams examined seven entries with four awards being granted. Award descriptions and pictures will appear in OrchidPro with a complete description and measurements. Here are the awards:
Paphiopedilum Wonderful Night ‘Arnspiger’, HCC/AOS 78, owned by Brent Arnspiger
A single flower of unique color and good form, well presented on a beautiful mottled green plant.
Fredclarkeara Upgrade ‘Rare Earth Orchids’, AM/AOS 82, owned by Stephen Moffitt
Thirty-four flowers of green and gold coloration on two pendant inflorescences. Beautifully grown.
Fredclarkeara Julio David Rios ‘Rare Earth Orchids’, CCM/AOS 85, owned by Stephen Moffitt
Seven pendulous inflorescences displaying 137 deep burgundy flowers and one bud making a spectacular display. It goes without saying that a CCM award substantiates exceptional growing skills by the owner.
Fredclarkeara Gemstones ‘Rare Earth Orchids’, HCC/AOS 77, owned by Stephen Moffitt
Seventeen shell pink, maroon spotted flowers on one pendant inflorescence. While fragrance is not a scored quality, the judges noted the pleasant fragrance.
We welcome visitors and exhibitors to judging. You can’t learn or get an award with you and your plant at home.
