The Houston Orchid Society sponsors an Intermediate Group which consist of members that wish to do in-depth studies of orchid genera and their specific culture, disease prevention and remedies, fertilizing and watering and how to manage a greenhouse.
The group meets quarterly and specific details about the meetings are announced at the monthly HOS meetings and are also available in the Houston Happenings Newsletter.
While the sessions are geared towards those with a basic understanding of orchid culture and some growing experience, all members are welcome to attend an Intermediate meeting if they want to learn more about the specific topic that is being presented.
The Intermediate Group had two educational displays in the recent AOS Members Meeting and Show held in Houston and sponsored by the Houston Orchid Society. The displays featured orchid diseases, how to grow Cattleyas and potting mixes and mounting materials.
The HOS (Houston Orchid Society) is a member society of the American Orchid Society, the Southwest Regional Orchid Growers Association and is affiliated with the Orchid Digest and the International Phalaenopsis Alliance.
HOS is recognized as a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code. Contributions to the HOS (and the affiliated Houston Judging Center) are tax-deductible.
